St. Kevin’s Community College in Dublin hosted a Maths Eyes Poster Competition on Friday 5th December for their first-year students. The event was judged by Ciaran O’Sullivan from IT Tallaght and Miriam McNamee from the South Dublin County Partnership. There were 20 entries from the first-year students, each showcasing different subjects, including schoolbags, kittens, furniture, and children’s toys.
The School Library was used for the competition, and all entries were displayed around the Library for everyone to see. Miriam enlarged all the photos and made them into posters, adding to the visual appeal of the competition. Ciaran carefully assessed each poster and praised the photo-taking and maths included in every entry.
Glen Craig from 1 Oak was awarded second prize of a voucher to the Cinema for his poster featuring an Audi car in a car park. The first prize of a Tablet was awarded to Chantelle Walsh from 1 Oak for her poster showcasing bathroom tiles reflected in the bathroom mirror. All of the first-year students who entered the competition were praised, and the judges congratulated them on their creativity.
The school thanked Ciaran and Miriam for their support and continued assistance in their efforts to promote maths education at St. Kevin’s Community College. The competition was an excellent way to make maths more engaging and fun for the students and help them develop their mathematical skills.
