Staying in Shape: Maths Eyes Project with Junior Infants at St Vincent’s Girls NS

Posted on November 10, 2019

The junior infants at St Vincent’s Girls N S in Ballybough participated in a Maths Eyes project focused on shape and space. The class learned to identify 2D and 3D shapes by finding examples in familiar items around them. They found cubes in Rubik’s cubes, cones in 99 cones and party hats, squares in Spongebob, rectangles in the classroom door and table, and circles in traffic lights. During Maths Week, the girls had fun making shapes in the PE hall and during class with marshmallows and cocktail sticks. The teacher’s favourite part of the project was including the girls in deciding how to show shape and space, and they had no problem staying in shape!
