Maths Learning Through Play and Movement at St. David’s School, Artane

Posted on June 2, 2017

St. David’s National School in Artane used the Maths Eyes approach to teach the concepts of shapes and space to their Junior and Senior Infant classes. The lessons included discussions on sides, corners, curved edges, and length, as well as coloring and creating shapes using peg boards and shape tiles. To make the learning more interactive, the students used their bodies to create the different shapes, making corners, long and short sides, and curved edges with their bodies. Over 80 students participated in the activity and the atmosphere in the hall was incredible. The kinesthetic aspect of the activity reinforced their learning and made it enjoyable for the children.
