Maths Eyes Street Workshops: Engaging Communities in Fun and Interactive Learning Activities

Posted on July 17, 2016

Workshops are a fun and engaging way to help the local community learn about various issues related to mathematics, numeracy, and everyday life. Held on busy streets and public squares, our workshops provide an opportunity for people to actively participate and learn through various hands-on activities.

One of our recent workshops in Tallaght focused on the issue of water conservation. Using a pipe divided into sections, we asked passers-by to match the coloured segments with the different activities like washing, drinking, cleaning, flushing the toilet, and cooking that require water daily. This activity gave people a visual representation of how much water is used in different activities, and encouraged them to think about ways to conserve water in their daily lives.

Our experienced facilitators engage with participants and discuss various topics related to mathematics and numeracy, including problem-solving, geometry, and spatial reasoning. Through our workshops, we hope to help people develop their maths eyes, a way of seeing and appreciating the mathematics in the world around them.

If you are interested in hosting a street workshop, please let us know! We are always looking for new opportunities to engage with local communities and promote numeracy education in a fun and interactive way. Whether you have an idea for a workshop or need help developing one, we are here to support you. Our experienced facilitators can work with you to design a workshop that meets your needs and objectives, and provide you with the resources and materials you need to make it a success.
