Maths Eyes Multilingual Booklet: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity in Cork’s Northside Schools

Maths Eyes Multilingual Booklet: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity in Cork’s Northside Schools

Posted on June 17, 2013

The Shandon/North Cathedral/Blackpool HSCL Cluster in Cork, Ireland, involving multiple schools in the area, such as Blarney St, North Pres, St Vincents, The North Mon Primary & Secondary, and Gaelscoil Pheig Sayers. In 2013, the HSCL Cluster took a unique approach by producing a booklet in as many languages as possible to reflect the diverse community. With over twenty languages spoken in the school, the aim was to instill a sense of ownership in the students by providing a booklet and posters that featured their language. The children or their parents performed all the translations. The Maths Eyes Multilingual booklet, was launched at Blackpool Community Centre, becoming part of the Maths resources in the participating schools, promoting inclusivity and diversity in maths education. The success of the project showcases how schools can support diversity by celebrating and incorporating multiculturalism in the curriculum.
