Maths Eyes Opened – linking to curriculum and maximising use of Maths Eyes resources

The idea of using “Maths Eyes” as a teaching approach will be explored with specific links to how it is very compatible with many of the aims of the new Primary Maths Curriculum.

This session will be filled with ideas and strategies for implementing this methodology, with practical examples of how to employ this in a typical classroom, the whole school and within the home.

Those in attendance will benefit from ideas on how “Maths Eyes” is playful, open-ended to suit all levels, and rich in opportunities to expose children to the language of maths.

Maths Eyes Webinar 2: 24 September 2024, 7pm – 8pm

Unleashing the potential of Maths Eyes – case studies of Maths Eyes in action

Problem-solving skills are an integral part of resilience and the ability to persevere through challenges and adversity. To effectively work through and solve a problem, students must be able to think critically and creatively.

Critical and creative thinking help students approach a problem objectively and to determine different ways to go about finding a solution. This process in turn helps students build self-efficacy. When students are able to analyze and solve a problem, this increases their confidence and impacts their disposition towards mathematics.

This session will explore in detail the impact of a Maths Eyes initiative in a primary school. It will also explore the impact of Maths Eyes in other settings including Marino Institute of Education teacher training college, St. Mura’s NS, Waterford Education Support Centre and a Gaelscoil.
