The use of Maths trails as part of a teaching approach will be explored with emphasis on how they might be employed with the aim of promoting playful learning in the new Primary Maths Curriculum.

This session will explore using a Maths Eyes approach to developing Maths Trails that promote exploration and student discussion of Maths ideas. Guidelines on how to develop trails will be discussed, in particular focussing on ensuring that they are playful, open-ended to suit all levels, and rich in opportunities to expose children to the language of maths.

A variety of existing maths trails that have been developed in parks, local communities etc will be discussed. The use of technology in maximising the reach and impact of maths trails will also be explored.
